The Philadelphia Eagles received their Super Bowl rings on Friday night.

The ring features two Lombardi trophies, representing the two Super Bowl victories the Eagles have won, and a button that unleashes wings on the ring.

But now that the Super Bowl champions have received their rings, all attention shifts to the 2025 NFL season, where the Eagles are not even betting favorites to defend their title.

The Eagles are listed at +750 to win the Super Bowl this season. The Baltimore Ravens (+650) are the betting favorites, and the Buffalo Bills (+700) also have better odds than the defending champions.

Super Bowl hangovers are a real thing in the NFL. Only eight teams have ever won back-to-back championships. Most recently, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowls LVII and LVIII in consecutive years. Prior to Mahomes, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots dominated the AFC with consecutive titles in Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX.

It’s funny how quickly turnarounds happen in football. The NFC East was the laughingstock of the NFL just a few seasons ago. Now, it’s so competitive that a difficult division alone is likely a major reason the Eagles are not betting favorites to repeat.

The Washington Commanders instantly got better when quarterback Jayden Daniels exploded onto the scene during his rookie season. They also built a solid supporting cast around him with veterans Deebo Samuel, Marshon Lattimore and Von Miller.

The Dallas Cowboys should be improved this season with a healthy Dak Prescott. They also added George Pickens via trade, which should make CeeDee Lamb even more of a threat in the receiving game.

For as bad as the New York Giants were last season, they still managed to win three games and upgraded their quarterback room with veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Their defensive line, featuring No. 3 overall draft pick Abdul Carter, Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns, should be one of the best in the NFL.

While the NFC East has improved, the Eagles did lose a few key pieces that made their team so dangerous. 2024 sack leader Josh Sweat moved on to the Arizona Cardinals. Veteran cornerback Darius Slay signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. C.J. Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Houston Texans. Milton Williams signed with Mike Vrabel’s Patriots.

Still, the Eagles are the favorites to win the NFC at +370. Quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley might just be talented enough to get them back to the promised land.
